I am back from my trip to this year's
LinuxTag. In the past I stayed for the entire week but this time around I could only stay for one-and-a-half days.
On
Thursday I woke up at 3:00 AM and could not sleep anymore. At 7:12 AM I took an
ICE 3 train to
Karlsruhe where I arrived at 8:59 AM. About fifteen minutes later I signed in at the venue and, after a first stroll through the exhibition area, said "Hello!" to my peers at the
LAMP Area and
Gentoo Linux booths.
At 1:00 PM
Kristian Köhntopp opened the
Serendipity Birds of a Feather session with a
presentation. I had to leave this session early to get set up in time for my "
PHP 5 - Ein Jahr danach" presentation that I gave as part of the "LAMP Day" in the Practical Linux Forum.
After attending the "10 Years Anniversary of PHP and MySQL: A Retrospect" panel (with Rasmus Lerdorf, Michael Widenius, and Zak Greant), Kristian and I left the venue at about 6:00 PM for his place where both
Garvin Hicking and I slept.
When I posted the "
An Orgy in Chocolate" recipe for a
Death by Chocolate like cake Kristian was one of the people who complained that I did not take pictures. To thank him for offering me a place to sleep I brought him a cake. Pictures (before Kristian ate the cake :-) are
here.
At 7:00 PM I followed an invitation from
O'Reilly Germany to a dinner called "O'Reilly Radar". At about 9:00 PM I headed back home to Kristian's place where we had the rest of the cake and discussed various stuff until well after midnight.
After a breakfast I left Kristian's place on
Friday at about 11:00 AM for the LinuxTag venue before I took the train back home at 3:00 PM.

I just finished my presentation "PHP 5 - Ein Jahr danach" ("PHP 5 - The Year After") here at
LinuxTag in Karlsruhe, Germany. The presentation was part of the "LAMP Day" organized by the
LAMP Area.
The slides I used for the presentation can be found
here.

There will be a
LAMP Area again at this year's
LinuxTag, which will take place in
Karlsruhe, Germany from June 22 to June 25.
June 23 will be the "
LAMP Day": a full day of presentations covering the state of the world that is
Apache,
MySQL, and
PHP.
I will give a presentation titled "PHP 5 - Ein Jahr danach" which will give an overview of software packages that were ported from Java to PHP 5 in the year after the release of PHP 5:
PHPUnit2,
Phing,
Creole, and
Propel.

Following
Derick's
example I am posting this list of venues that I will attend in the months to come:
- Linux/UNIX Usergroup Sankt Augustin in Bonn, Germany on February, 24th,
- Free and Open Source Developers European Meeting (FOSDEM) in Brussels, Belgium on February, 26th,
- PHP Usergroup Köln/Bonn in Köln, Germany on March, 4th,
- Linux/UNIX Usergroup Sankt Augustin in Bonn, Germany on March, 10th,
- CeBIT and the Heise CeBIT Party in Hannover, Germany on March, 11th,
- International PHP Conference 2005 - Spring Edition on May 3rd and 4th in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Although the PHP Usergroup Köln/Bonn meets up every month I am mentioning its March meeting specifically above because that meeting is special. We (the usergroup) have been invited by
O'Reilly Germany to their offices where we will have a couple of sessions (I will present
PHPUnit, for instance) over a bowl of soup.
I will also be at
LinuxTag in June in Karlsruhe, Germany and maybe at the
GNOME User and Developer European Conference (GUADEC) in May in Stuttgart, Germany.
